 There were all kinds of rumors about Larry's critical condition .. in fact .. he was released three days later and told to cut down on his drinking and smoking and to EAT. Obdulia .. current chief at Casa La Playa .. told Larry he had to go elsewhere.. Gentleman waiter Sergio found Larry new digs two blocks back .. it is a funky room. Larry's office is in front .. a construction site on hold
 His room resembles DorkyPark .. he still holds court in "Little Beirut" all day and into the evening .. he sweeps, has made friends with local kids (he put aup a basketball net) .. he survives ..
 A wake was held on December 27th .. NoNo .. felix' lovely daughter made a pinata, Dorky dork regulars atteneded .. incuding the Leon-Mendoza family from Morelia, Rene' fron Rana Rene Restaurant .. Heather and Joan .. Pedro and Zella, Barry (last year's winner)

 The Pinata breaking climaxed the wake party on the 27th .. itcontained Marlboros, lighters, condoms and various other adult dorky items

BREAKING SAD NEWS .. Sergio Castro (left) died .. August 4, 2005
Zihuatanejo won’t be the same without Sergio Castro. Sergio died after an operation for infections in his stomach and intestines. He was the patriarch of one of the town’s oldest families .. Sergio was the owner of Casa La Playa .. the last of the town’s “old style” waterfront places .. his home was comfortable and the 7 rental rooms were a favorite of budget travelers and regular “snowbirds” from Canada and the USA.
Things never changed much at Casa La Playa .. which is as he and the regulars wanted it. I broke the lid on the toilet in room #3 in 1990 .. the improvised wooden lid he had made is still there to this day ..
Sergio had many friends .. locals like fisherman and raconteur Felix Corrales hung out with him and did odd jobs around the Huespuedes (guest house) in exchange for beer. Sergio sat for hours a day at the table in the garden next to he kitchen.. smoking and drinking beer.
It has been said that Sergio had the first refrigerator (in the 50’s) for chilling beer in Zihuatanejo. This propane powered machine kept beer cold for tourists and friends. To keep it simple Sergio worked on an honor system .. hold on to your beer caps and pay when ready.
Sergio is survived by a sister, brother .. his woman Obdulia and beloved daughter Hercelia. He also was very close to regular renters like Tom, Peter, Zella, Heather, Stix, Joan and most of all: the son he never had: Larry from Branford, Ontario, Canada.

 Our honored 5th Dork of the Week for 2005 Felix Corrales this picture taken about 1964 .. Felix was skipped ahead two years at "Prepa" and atteneded technical school in Manzanillo studying fishing science. The siren call of the 60's cut short his advanced education and called him back to Zihuatanejo where he played music and charmed the women and drank the odd beer
 Certainly the ULTIMATE DORK ... Felix Corrales .. husband, fisherman, father, handyman, restaurant owner (the soon to open: "Mariscos Corrales"), dorky golf champ, dorky world record holder, rock and roll musician, singer, positive spirit .. the soul of Dorky Park and our 5th Dork of the Week for 2005

 Many people don't know that Dorky Park is really just the front courtyard of Casa Huespedes (Guest House) de La Playa.. owned by Sergio Castro .. who we are proud to name 2005´s 3rd Dork of the Week
Sergio Castro started out in the 1950´s He was the first person in Zihuatanejo with chilled beer for sale all day long .. he had a propane refrigerator .. and he asked only that people keep their bottle caps and pay when they were finished drinking .. an honor system as it were .. today .. he has an electric refrigerator .. he still sells beer on the honor system and still keeps track of his product by sampling during the day ..lt is like a world where time moves slowly ... we like it that way
 We make fun of Sergio .. but we must never forget and always appreciate that he has kept Casa La Playa the same for 50 years .. no fancy upgrades (but for the odd coat of paint) no silly remodelizations .. The Zihuatanejo buildings on the beach front used to all look much like Casa La Playa today .. it is a museum .. a historical landmark .. it is our Mexican home .. our heartfelt thanks to Sergio .. Felicidaes to our Amigo Sergio Castro !

 Zella Jeannette .. founding member of Dorky Dark, chief and now unquestionably Queen Dork ..shot a season course record low score of 5 today .. January 6 .. including back to back holes--in-one on the second and extremely difficult third hole .. the third hole hole-in-one was the first in the Dorky 2004-2005 season .. and only the 4th or 5th hole in one on that hole in the course history .. FELICIDADES AND ALL BOW DOWN TO OUR QUEEN OF THE DORKS ZELLA JEANNETTE!
 The fabulous Gaby Enríquez from Mexico City impressed all with her smile and athletic determination .. she scored a 7 in her thrid dorky park outing .. Gaby is a dancer and chilanga bon vivant ..

BREAKING NEWS .. DORKY PRESIDENT DETAINED BY ZIHUA POLICE ! ! !..
 It had to happen .. the mantra to Larry has been for years: Do not leave the Dorky compound do not leave the Dorky compound . Saturday night Larry decided to visit several bars and to drink more than several beers and of course, get to know bnetter some of the locals .. sensing the call of nature .. toiletwise .. he found a particularly filthy toilet and this sent the hygenic Canadian to the streets and then to a park to .. take a pee .. unfortunately at the exact time the Zuhua police noticed his using of a Mexican park as a toilet .. Larry was detained but unable to "stop the flow" as it were .. trying to reach for his 100 peso fine (called mordida) while the flow continued to the frustration of the police.. after he was finally finished .. the money changed hands and Larry was released .. Larry .. Do Not Leave The Compund!!!!

 Dorky Park honors a truly great Dorky .. Larry Strong ..Larry is a retired fireman (33 years!) and ex-employee of the of the Atomic Energy Commission. He and his charming wife Willa are from Graham, Washington and have been coming to Zihua since 1982 - they are truly "old timers" .. Larry loves the relaxation he experiences in Zihua .. Larry loves to fish and to crab .. Larry's lovely wife Willa holds the course record at Dorky Park for most strokes .. Great husband that he is .. Larry built, this summer, a mini Dorky Park at their home so that Willa can practice and be competative in the next Dorky Invitational.

Curtis DOW .. this says it all
 Our Third Dork of the Week August 2004... Curtis from Salem don't Inhale'em Oregon!! That's Curtis standing next to the white chicken in the Blue Dorky Park Cap ..
 Your "Dorks" come in different forms. Curtis is a classical musician (a master bass player ) and owner of Aquilausa (see www.aquilausa.com) .. a purveyor of gut strings for historical or unusual stringed instruments.
 Curtis is an annual Christmas-New Years holiday visitor to Zihuatanejo. He visits with his wonderful gal, Silva of Toronto as in Canada. They met in Zihua and built an internet relationshiop which blossomed into the sorted affair they live today! They are TresMarias folks (across the bridge to La Noria): they are hardcore dorky park members, often found playing intensive games or drinking early morning coffee with Pedro and Zella .. Curtis dreams dorky. Curtis knows his way around older Mercedes Benz' cars ..Curtis is a great fotographer and a collector of some pretty weird stuff ..The presence of of Curtis and Silva at dorky park threatens to bring an unusual bit of class to our funky totally third class operation .. Felicidades Curtis .. your DOW Cap awaits.

 Canadian Larry is the soul of Dorky Park .. this guy built Dorky Park, grooms Dorky, brings all the prizes for Dorky Tourneys. He is guy knows Dorky; this guy lives and breathes Dorky: this is the KING of DORKS

Go ahead, laugh .. a three hole sand putt putt course in downtown Zihuatanejo is not a place you'd expect to attract folks from all over the world! But twice every year Dorky Park Invitational International tournaments are held on this course. Hey, it's better than hanging out at pay toilets!

 This is Pete Dorschner (aka "Dorky") Dorky namesake and the man who visited Mexico many years ago and who suggested to our President, Larry, that instead of just drinking beer all day long, maybe he should play golf and drink beer all day long! That year (1999) Larry brought down a bunch of golf balls, several cat food cans (for holes) and two old putters and built the course in the courtyard of Casa La Playa
Dorky is not all beer and golf .. well, in fact, yes it is all beer and golf .. A Toast to ya Dorky .. it was an idea that changed the world!
